Amazon has refreshed its popular line of Fire HD 8 tablets with a faster processor and USB Type-C charging.
The RAM has also been increased from 1.5GB to 2GB and Amazon says the new 2.0GHz chip is 30% faster than the previous version.
The last time the 8-inch tablet was updated was in 2018 and, at £89, it remains an affordable tablet for entertainment – especially if you’re signed up to Amazon’s Prime music and video services.
The display remains the same 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and the battery is still clocked at 12 hours. But at least with USB Type-C charging, it’ll charge up faster.
Amazon has also introduced a Fire HD 8 Plus version which adds a bit more RAM and wireless charging for £20 more. The specs bump has also been applied to the ‘Kids Edition’ version of the tablet that comes with the colourful protective case and two-year extended replacement program.
‘The new Fire HD 8 tablets offer the features that everyone in the family wants – great content, more storage, longer battery life – at a price that is incredibly affordable,’ said Eric Saarnio, Vice President, Amazon Devices EU.
‘With access to millions of movies, TV shows, books, songs, magazines, Alexa, and more— Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 8 Plus are the perfect tablets for entertainment.’
The tablets are available to pre-order today and will start shipping on 3rd June.
